Sports and Remedial massage, movement and bodywork

I started to see Charmaine following a back injury which had caused a sequestrated disc at L5/S1.  I was in real pain and my training and sporting participation had to be put on hold.  I wanted to avoid surgery and get back to my usual activity, but realised that I needed to address the cause of the injury as opposed to just the injury itself.

My Osteopath recommended that I consult with Charmaine and since then I have not looked back.  Through a combination of massage and specialist sessions to identify my weaknesses and address my movement patterns I am back feeling even better and fitter than I was before the injury.

Charmaine has an unrivalled knowledge of how the body works, of how movement in one place affects the movement in another.  She has developed a clear strategy to get me moving better and in a more balanced way.  I cannot thank her enough.

I’ve been seeing Charmaine for sports massage for the last year and she has done wonders for my body!!  I am a fitness instructor and also train and compete in Crossfit. I started seeing Charmaine when my body was at breaking point i.e. near injury, and she was always able to help me recover and allow me to resume my normal training regime. I now see Charmaine before I hit breaking point as a precautionary measure and always feel 100 percent better after my visit. She knows exactly what my body needs and really makes a difference in how I feel and move after I have seen her.  I have seen many sports massage therapists and I can honestly say she is the best!

…………

I am an Iron distance triathlete and marathon runner so I need help in recovering those over used muscles and preparing for races. Charmaine's  massages over the last couple of years have really helped with this and it often feels like they make the difference between a great race and an ok race, her techniques and knowledge of sport specific tenderness/tightness is second to none which really helps in releasing those muscles which you can't get to with a roller or tennis ball. She is the best I've been to!

I have regular massages with Charmaine to help me to manage my joint hypermobility problems, which cause muscle spasms and tightness, tendon and ligament pain, and general biomechanical and muscle imbalances. I have always found Charmaine to be incredibly knowledgeable and astute when working with complex issues and she definitely helps to keep my pain at bay so that I can manage my day to day activities. Charmaine is extremely professional and I would highly recommend her to anyone.

…………

There is no way I would have completed the London Marathon with out the help of Charmaine. Our weekly sessions allowed us to address a number of issues caused the heavy training schedule, and the various stretching advice she provided helped me stay injury free, and achieve the time I was aiming for.

I pulled a hamstring out walking and after several weeks it was still painful and not making progress. A friend recommended Charmaine and after a few treatments she got me walking properly and with ease again and able to go on holiday without worrying about a recurrence.

Since I discovered, subsequent to a Yoga class taken by Charmaine, that she also did Sports Massage, I have been attending sessions every few months as I find the treatments help to loosen and stretch my muscles, thereby increasing flexibility. I have every confidence in Charmaine for her thorough knowledge of the subject and for the way she is able to identify and resolve issues relating to areas of tension. She has a very pleasant manner and her approach is most professional.

Yoga

I have attended Charmaine's group yoga classes for several years now and she still continues to inspire me. Her classes are both mindful and challenging and her enthusiasm for the practice never wanes. Charmaine has a fantastic approach to both wellbeing and fitness which also lead me to hire her as my personal trainer for my wedding a couple of years ago. Once again she motivated and challenged with innovative, informative and challenging workouts which resulted in me reaching my goals. I now also attend smaller, private group yoga classes and every week. Charmaine continues to excite, challenge and inspire the class- Thank you Charmaine.

Charmaine's classes always have the right amount of challenge, leaving me feeling like I have both strengthened my body and relaxed my mind. She gives individual advice and is very knowledgeable on how to adapt postures for differing bodies and needs.

Charmaine really is an asset to CFB (Crossfit Bold) and is so knowledgeable and inspiring.  Her classes are challenging, but do not make you feel hopeless, and you can get such a sense of accomplishment when you finally master a move that seemed impossible weeks before.  She adapts the classes depending on what work we have done in the CF class that day and is able to target the specific areas of concern we are having.  It is definitely not your traditional yoga with the same boring pattern over and over again.  I feel noted improvements in flexibility and spinal alignment, and less sciatic pain when running, after her classes.  I honestly think everyone would benefit from her yoga class in their weekly program.

I really enjoy Charmaine's yoga. It's different in that it does not stick to a rigid structure and encourages you to try new things at your own pace. I particularly like the way Charmaine encourages you to listen to your own body and to accept your practice as your own without competing with others or pushing yourself into things that don't work for you.

I love our yoga classes. They help me in so many ways - with upper body strength, with flexibility, mobility, co-ordination and with general body awareness and control. I see them as complementing my Crossfit training. Charmaine works us hard but I always leave sweaty but energised.

Plus Charmaine is awesome!

......

I have been doing yoga as much as I can (with an irregular work schedule) and I can say that when I do go regularly it really helps me with Crossfit and also in any other physical aspects of my life.

Charmaine is a great teacher and my body awareness, control and flexibility has increased greatly as a result of attending her classes. This year when I have PR'd on my snatch and clean & jerk in Oly club it has been straight after a yoga session. Yoga especially helps me with my snatch and gymnastic movements by increasing my hip and ankle mobility and shoulder and core stability.

Last but not least it is great for decreasing stress levels and increasing mental focus.

Namaste!

I find that yoga helps with flexibility, core strength, body awareness as well as frame of mind.

I, without fail, feel better after my yoga class.

Try it people!
